The capital of Iraq's Kurdish region, Irbil, has been hit by a missile. Kurdish authorities say more than one missile was fired into the city on Sunday, local time. The new building of the US Consulate in Irbil was also attacked. The United States has blamed Iran for the attack. News Reuters.

The Kurdish Interior Ministry said the attack damaged several installations, but no one was killed. However, one civilian was injured. A State Department spokesman described the attack as "horrific" and said no US had been injured in the attack. None of their installations were damaged.

An Iraqi security official has said it is not yet time to raise the finger of blame for the attack. Initial reports, however, suggest that the missiles were short-lived and crossed the border.

The Iraqi official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media, said the remains of the missiles had been recovered from Irbil. He confirmed that the missiles were made in Iran.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. The U.S. official, who fired an arrow at Iran, did not comment further. Iran is still silent. However, a correspondent for Iran's state-run television channel, which operates in Iraq, said the attacks were aimed at a secret Israeli base in Irbil.

Pro-Iranian Shiite fighters have frequently attacked US troops in Iraq and neighboring Syria. Washington also retaliated with air strikes. Rocket and drone strikes (unmanned aerial vehicles) have been carried out on US troops at Irbil International Airport in the past. However, such incidents have not happened in the last few months.
